What motivates me

My curiosity: in technological, creative and economic developments and people who drive them forward. I want to support, assist and also protect them.

My conception of a lawyer is not just to be a good legal expert. You need to understand human conflicts, power structures, economic contexts. You have to know when to attack. But also, when a compromise is necessary.

Ever since my university days it has been important for me to look beyond the boundaries of law. And beyond national boundaries. Be flexible. Think in an entrepreneurial way. Be willing to take risks. This approach brought me into contact early on with many creative people, with people who make a difference. Whether they be artists or programmers, entrepreneurs or nerds (or sometimes all of the above).

After my graduation, this experience led me directly to starting my own business, a law firm for new media. Today, I have been advising people and companies in my special field for more than 20 years. Independent and still curious.

What defines me

I am originally from a region in Germany, Westphalia, where people are said to be very determined, focussed and reliable; we get things done without much ado. Most of my professional life I have lived in Cologne, where I enjoy the buoyant spirit of the city with my family and our dog. Thus, in terms of clichés – people tell me – I combine the best of both worlds. I believe that my interest in politics, society and technology is transregional.

All in all, good qualities for solving legal challenges creatively and professionally instead of acting as a legal admonisher or obstructionist.
